Legal and Ethical Issues

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that allows the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. They have copyright licenses that give the public permission to share and use your created work and those conditions come from you and you decide how you would want your creative work to be used. CC allows you to change your copyright terms from "all rights reserved" to "some rights reserved".

I believe information such as journal articles, TV, movies, music should be free. I say this because nowadays so many people have access to movies and music  through illegal ways such as torrents and it is so easy to get these things for free that many people do not even think twice before committing this "crime".  According to the article Piracy, computer crime, and IS misuse at the university, "A recent study notes 40% of students surveyed at two universities admitted to committing software piracy. Further, none of these students were worried about punishment for their actions". This goes to show that people have easy access to these resources anyway and wont bother paying for it if it is so easy to access for free. If people don't want these illegal activities then they should do something else to avoid people from getting easy access to these things for free.

  1. The problem is, there will always be a way to get anything from the web. Whether it's from trading flash drives or just personally handing out copies.

  2. The fact that the Tv, Movie and Music industry is fighting piracy instead of dealing with it logically says a lot about what kinds of people are in charge of these organisations. (Since they'll never get rid of pirating completely) They need to make their content more accessible if they want pirating to decrease.

  3. With all the people with piracy also effects the owners of the content and is hurting them. Everything has their ups and downs

  4. The fact that information such as movies, music and articles are not free, people choose to get those information illegally rather than paying.

  5. High prices for entertainment lead people to dowloading for free. There are no penalties for doing this. This the power of the web.

  6. I disagree on what you says that people can now have illegal ways of getting journals movies ..ect..so it should be free....because the original work cant be find illegally and their is way that you can get arrested for doing these illegal stuff nowadays . Also, it would be fair for the authors and makers of journals and music and TV programs to release the information forcefully free unless they want to.
